“We can’t change the past, but we can do everything about the present.”
Last year I wrote to you about New Beginnings, but this year I want you to reflect on the past.
Think about the past year, and ask yourself these questions:
- Have I moved closer to my goals, or farther away?
- Have I developed more traits that improve my character?
- Do my friendships have more depth than they did a year ago?
In short, take stock of how are you doing as a person.
As I’ve said many times, we can’t change the past, but we can do everything about the present. At times, it is helpful to look back and evaluate past decisions, and learn from the consequences – both positive and negative.
So here is my challenge to you. List 5-10 things from the past year that make you proud. It could be accomplishments, friendships, grades… anything. And then also list 5-10 accomplishments or characteristics you would like to focus on in the next year. It might even be helpful to ask family members or friends who know you well, “Where do you see areas that I need to grow as a person?”
It isn’t always easy to develop your character and pursue your goals, but 100 times out of 100, it will be beneficial!
Please feel free to drop us a line and let us know what you are planning for the next year – we want to cheer you on to victory!
